Grant Guidelines

The Foundation will use a selection committee of staff from Heritage and People’s Choice to help select the recipients of the grants.

To apply for this grant round, applicants need to meet the following criteria:

• Be a non-profit with deductible gift recipient (DGR) status item 1.
• The funding request must be for an existing program/service in one of the Foundation’s focus areas.
• The program/service must operate within the geographical footprint of the Heritage and People’s Choice Branch Network.
• You must be able to show reliable evidence of success of the program/service to date.
• The program is very clear on the issue/s it is trying to solve/support, the desired outputs and the program’s role in helping create long-term change through clear outcomes.
• You must show evidence of “lived experience” contributing to the development of the program.
• The program/service must have clearly defined outcomes and include means of measuring, evaluation and reporting its outcomes/impact.
• Be clearly able to demonstrate the number of people who will be positively impacted by provision of the grant.
• A clear and well-defined budget.
• Have an annual income for 2022/23 of under $10 million.
• Obtain less than 70% of your annual income from government sources.
• To apply, organisations must have been registered with the ACNC for a period of more than 2 years, except by invitation following discussion with the Foundation.
• You may not apply for the same program/service if you have previously applied and your application was unsuccessful, without first speaking to the Foundation.
  
   

Preference

Preference will be given to applicants whose program/service:

• Covers multiple Heritage Bank Charitable Foundation focus areas.
• Demonstrates the utilisation of partnerships or collaborations.

Assessment criteria

1. The program aligns with one or more of the Heritage Bank Charitable Foundation core focus areas
2. The program seeks to meet a real need in the community
3. The program has clear outputs that are helping build stronger communities
4. There is collaborative and the program has community support
5. The program’s budget is realistic and well defined
6. The program plays an important role in helping to create long-term change

Funding exclusions

We will not providing funding in any of the following cases.

✘ Programs outside Australia
✘ Auspiced applications
✘ New program or service
✘ Sponsorship or fundraising appeals
✘ Events or commercial activities
✘ Small contributions to large capital programs
✘ Programs of a political or religious nature
✘ Requests to support individuals
✘ Recurrent operational costs such as rent and utilities
✘ Study or attendance at conferences or seminars
✘ Endowments, memorials, bursaries or named academic chairs
✘ Motor vehicles and buses
✘ Government entities
✘ Private schools
✘ Other PuAFs and PAFs
✘ Sport, recreation or social activities for their own sake
✘ Programs which duplicate existing services
✘ Research
✘Animal welfare

Heritage and People’s Choice Grant 

This new grant will support a charity that works across the majority of Heritage and People’s Choice footprint delivering an existing program in one or all of our focus areas.

1 x $50,000 grant with the focus area of:

• Positive educational and alternative pathways to help at-risk children and teenagers;
• Health care services for vulnerable Australians and their families; and/or
• Support for the economic and social wellbeing of people in regional, rural and remote communities, including in times of natural disasters.

The Our Shout Workplace Giving Grant

1 x $27,000 grant with the focus area of:

• Health care services for vulnerable Australians and their families.

If you apply for the Our Shout Workplace Giving Grant you will also automatically register, and be considered for, a Growing Stronger Communities Grant.

Growing Stronger Communities Grants

4 x $15,000 grants with the focus areas of:

• Positive educational and alternative pathways to help at-risk children and teenagers; 
• Health care services for vulnerable Australians and their families; and/or
• Support for the economic and social wellbeing of people in regional, rural and remote communities, including in times of natural disasters.
